This trip takes you through the largest national park in the Baltics - the Gauja National Park with stunning red and yellow sandstone formations and a typical flora and fauna. The Livonian Order and the German knights have left impressive castles in this region. Today the Gauja National Park is a jewel of Latvian nature, history, culture and tourism. Across the National Park of Gauja leads the river Gauja with the impressive valleys. This area is ideal for canoeing. The medieval cities Cesis and Sigulda are the attractions for sightseeing and excursions. Finally, you can enjoy the long white beach of Jurmala. It is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Baltics. This is holiday between nature and culture!
Day 1: Riga
Individual arrival in Riga and transfer to your hotel (not included). Overnight in Riga.
Day 2: Riga-Jurmala Resort-Riga (~25 km/16 miles, by train ~25 km/16 miles)
The cycle path goes along the river Daugava and through pine forests. Jurmala is unique with its many colourful summer houses made of wood in the beginning of the 20th Century. Return trip by bike or by train to Riga (30 min). Overnight in Riga
Day 3. Riga – train to Cesis ( ~25 km/16 miles, by train 93 km/58 miles)
Take the train from Riga to Cesis (~1.5 hours) (tickets not included in the price!). Arrival in Cesis and afternoon bike ride in Cesis district or around Raiskums lake. Overnight in Cesis.
Day 4: Cesis – Canoe Tour – Sigulda ( ~35 km/22 miles, canoeing ~18 km/11 miles)
Today take a canoe trip on the river Gauja (2-seats, ~ 4.5 hours). Your bike will be transported to the arrival point of the canoe. In Ligatne continue cycling through the Gauja National Park to Sigulda. Overnight in Sigulda.
Day 5: Sigulda (cycling ~30 km/19 miles)
Today you can take the day to relax or make a round cycle trip visiting the most interesting places of the Gauja National Park - the Gutmana Cave, the Turaida Castle, Krimulda park, Devil's Cave on the bank of the Gauja River. Overnight in Sigulda.
Day 6: Sigulda-Saulkrasti-Riga (~45 km/28 miles, by train 48 km/30 miles)
Cycle to Saulkrasti. En route you can visit Krimulda Church, which is one of the oldest churches in Latvia. Saulkrasti offers sea, sun and nature in perfect recreation in one of the most beautiful towns on the Latvian coast. Join the evening train back to Riga (~1 hour). Overnight in Riga
Day 7: Riga
Breakfast at the hotel. End of the tour.
